Context
erocci is a model-driven REST framework developed in Erlang around the OCCI (Open Cloud Computing Interface) standard.
The technology was initially developed for Lizenn (see project) to build highly scalable, extensible cloud and IoT services. Its model-driven architecture allows resources, relationships and capabilities to be described through models rather than hard-coded into the framework.
What I did
I designed and led the development of the framework, combining:
- a highly scalable Erlang/OTP architecture
- a model-driven approach to resource and API definition
- REST APIs based on the OCCI standard
- an extensible architecture for implementing domain-specific backends
The objective was to provide a generic technology foundation from which different cloud and IoT management services could be built.
Outcome
erocci evolved from a company technology into an open-source framework and became a technology foundation for the OCCIware collaborative research project (see project).
This transition demonstrated the ability of the architecture to move beyond its initial product context and support a larger research and open-source ecosystem around model-driven cloud and IoT management.
I knew Jean when we worked together on the OCCIWare project. I was the scientific leader for Telecom SudParis in that project and Jean was the architect and main contributor to the OCCIWare runtime. Working with Jean was a productive time, he respected his teammates and understood the teamwork concepts and actively contribute to it and lead it. I am sure that Jean will always emerge as a valued colleague at work and always make distinctive contributions.
