OCCIware

Founder and architect of OCCIware, a collaborative R&D project building a formal, tooled framework for cloud resource management on top of the OCCI standard -- and main developer of its erocci runtime.

Context

Cloud resources – compute, network, storage, and everything built on top of them – were each managed through their own API. OCCI, the Open Cloud Computing Interface, offered a common resource-oriented model; what was missing was a precise metamodel and a toolchain to actually build on it.

What I did

  • Founded the OCCIware collaborative research project and defined its technical ambition, then acted as its architect.
  • Main developer of erocci , the Erlang OCCI runtime at the heart of the toolchain: a REST server exposing arbitrary resources through the standard.
  • Contributed to a precise metamodel for OCCI and to the design of the industrial, model-driven toolchain built around it.
  • Carried the project into the OW2 ecosystem and the standardization effort.

Outcome

An industrial resource-oriented toolchain , an open-source runtime, and published research – A Precise Metamodel for Open Cloud Computing Interface and OCCIware - A Formal and Tooled Framework for Managing Everything as a Service.

I knew Jean when we worked together on the OCCIWare project. I was the scientific leader for Telecom SudParis in that project and Jean was the architect and main contributor to the OCCIWare runtime. Working with Jean was a productive time, he respected his teammates and understood the teamwork concepts and actively contribute to it and lead it. I am sure that Jean will always emerge as a valued colleague at work and always make distinctive contributions.
