Context
OW2 is an independent international community committed to making the best and most reliable enterprise computing infrastructure software available to everyone – middleware, application platforms, cloud technologies. Its mission is as much about the ecosystem around the code as about the code itself.
What I did
Nine years in OW2’s governance, in three successive roles.
President (2017 – 2023) – building and developing a vibrant open-source ecosystem: strategy, community, and the consortium’s positioning among its industrial and academic members.
Board of Directors, individual members’ representative (2014 – 2019)
- Definition of OW2’s position on next-generation R&D programmes (H2020).
- Refinement of the OW2 principles on open-source licensing, and their application in the Technology Council.
- Promotion of OW2 towards individual contributors.
Technical Committee Chairman (2015 – 2016)
- Defined and promoted the existence and vision of the Technology Council.
- Increased the synergies between OW2 projects.
- Brought OW2 into the OCCI standardization initiative.
- Drove the enrollment of OW2 in H2020 programmes, and the definition and recruitment of an OW2 CTO.
Outcome
An open-source consortium with a clearer technical governance, a stronger presence in European R&D programmes, and an ecosystem that outlives any one mandate.
